This also meant there were more of them. In fact there were over a million people in Bakersfield by 1990.
Let me tell you a story from my youth, which significantly influenced the subsequent years of the development of club music and the entire business in this city.
The first Bakersfield venue was a nightclub called The Fuzzy. It was owned by the family who owned T.R.F..
This name is similar to a strip club called The Fuzzy Strip - but please be advised - those are two different places.
It was the first venue I remember playing music at. The owner of the club, the Fuzzy family was a member of the Manson family. I believe the name of the Fuzzy was 'The Devil's Club'.
It was on Westheimer, near the freeway. That was the street that went by 'C' that would have been the entrance of The Fuzzy at the time.
I used to call the Fuzzy my old band for the high school.
It was really long time - over a decade - and great memories.
The music that I remember from that night was The Fuzzy.. It was the kind of music where it didn't take much of a effort to listen to the music. So that is really an important piece of the music history of the community.
I also got to meet the Manson family at the time, because that was where they lived. They were in their house. I did not know any of them back then, because I was only about 10 years old.
There were only a handful of them who were alive and I was just going to go and hang out with them and learn the history of all of this.
I remember our business plan calculation and that along with my colleagues we where planning to boy our own club in Bakersfiel.
